Saturday 11th November 1939

The Reich foreign ministry in Berlin gives assurances that the neutrality of Holland and Belgium will be respected durning any hostilities. Both countries continue to take anti-invasion measures.

The BEF holds Armistice Day services surrounded by the battlefields of the First World War.

From Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth broadcasts to the women of the Empire. In her message she says women, “have real and vital work to do” and that they will have to “keep the Home Front, which will have dangers of its own, stable and strong.”
