Thanks for 40 years' dedicated service

Commando artist Ian Kennedy is best known for his striking Commando covers, but there’s more than that. Ian has also illustrated a number of books as well.
In January 2010, it will be 40 years since his first Commando cover was published so as a treat for all of his, and our, fans we’ll be re-issuing the book that carried that cover.

Ian Kennedy is one of the best artists, not just on Commando but in comics as a whole.
He has the ideal mix of spot-on detail and action that just screams at you to buy the book. I can’t wait to pick these issues up and to see more Ian Kennedy work in the future.
These covers are well worth being collected. Is there any chance that you could put these excellent Ian Kennedy covers up as wallpaper. These would be an great addition to anyone's wallpaper collection. Thanks
I second the comment about having these as wallpapers, Mr Kennedy is King of the Commandos along with Jose Maria Jorge. It's about time a “coffee table book” was produced with his work in it.
Thank you, sir, for your well-merited tribute. Now if only HM Government would emulate your example by rewarding 60 years of unrivalled artistry with a long-overdue knighthood, I feel sure Ian would consider his labours were at last being accorded the recognition they deserve.
I marvelled at the work of Ken Barr and Chaco with their covers for the Pre 100 Commandos. Then came Ian Kennedy in 1970 with ‘Seek and Strike’. Proud to have the original in my collection. I am not as familiar with what covers Mr Kennedy has done – but I know it’s a lot. I’d love a list of his favourite covers posted on this website. Here’s to you Mr Kennedy – God bless you and God bless your talent !!!
Answering you all together, lads. Ian is a top man as well as a top artist. Yes, these covers will appear as wallpapers (as soon as the paste is dry). The coffee table book has been on the cards for many years and should be done.
And as for the knighthood. I don’t know, but isn’t there a way that people of outstanding achievements can be recommended by the general public for and OBE or similar? Does anyone know how we do that? We could co-ordinate our strategy from here.
It would be great if Ian could be invited along to the Bristol International Comic Con? There he should be honoured.
Or maybe the Highland Comic Expo in Inverness in March?

Sir Mick Jagger, Sir Elton John, Sir Robert Mugabe – Mr Shakespeare, Mr Dickens, Mr Kennedy: surely it is time this grotesque imbalance was redressed? The man who has single-handedly elevated comic-book illustration to the level of Fine Art has earned the honour, if anyone ever did. Should not Her Majesty’s advisors be informed accordingly?
4 great covers, 4 great stories. Especially pleased to see an issue with the good old Hawker Sea Fury in. I very much agree that Ian Kennedy should be honoured for his excellent art work for Commando magazine.
Not being in Her Majesty’s confidence, and doubting the wisdom of all too many Honours List nominees, I am not optimistic about Mr K’s chances, doubtless to his relief. But the January reissues, and all else he has done for Commando, prove beyond all question who rules in the comic-strip realm.
