Jan 31, 12:00 PM
Wednesday 31st January 1940
A secret British military mission orders 300 Re2000 fighters from the Italian manufacturer Caproni. The deal is accepted but when the Germans get wind of it in April they stop the arrangement. The British then try to get the fighters sing a Portuguese intermediary. This also comes to nothing when the Italians declare of war on the Allies on June 10th.
A British report on the “Distribution of Industrial Population” is published. It recommends the building of new towns. If the anticipated german onslaught materialises, there will not be much demolition required.
