Diary Of WW2 — Day 158
Feb 05, 12:00 PM
Monday 5th February 1940
The British and French allies decide to send aircraft and guns to Finland and to send military forces into Norway and Sweden to do this. The operation will begin with landings at Narvik ( a port in the north of the country) and three other towns on or about March 20th. The plan depends on the Norwegians and Swedes doing nothing to maintain their neutrality. The plan is sketch, especially compared to the German plans for invasion. It is clear that the story of helping Finland is an excuse to get troops in and stop the flow of Swedish iron ore to Germany.
General Reynders, the Dutch commander-in-chief, resigns. He cites the lack of military preparations for a potential invasion of Holland.
