Diary Of WW2 — Day 186
Mar 04, 12:00 PM
Monday 4th March 1940
As both sides wait for the inevitable onslaught, the war remains distant for people in Britain, even those in the armed forces. The War Diary of the 4th (Queen’s Own) Hussars based at Market Weighton, East Yorkshire reads, “Officers of TA Units attached for a two-week course of Admin duties.” Not exactly the cut and thrust of battle.
In Finland, by contrast, the country is fighting for its very existence against its invading neighbour, the USSR. Viipuri, lying half way between Leningrad and Helsinki, is under severe pressure. The Finns defeat Soviet forces attacking from the east and west of Viipuri. Soviet forces attacking from the west are attempt to cross the ice on Viipuri Bay.
