The evacuation of 470,000 people from Finnish territory handed over to the Soviet Union commences. This is a huge logistical headache for the Finnish authorities as well as a personal tragedy for the refugees.
The Polish government-in-exile reveals that Hitler had tried to involve Poland in a plot to attack the Soviet Union. It was supposed to have been proposed by Goering during a visit to Warsaw in February 1935. He is aid to have suggested to Polish leader, Marshal Pilsudski, that Poland and Germany should jointly invade the Ukraine.
Back in Germany, Goering decrees that all articles made of copper, bronze, nickel or other useful metals must be given up for the war effort.
