The Normandy invasion of June 6th 1944 was a success because of all the service personnel who worked as a massive team. Above the beaches the sky was alive with danger but pilots like those flying the Spitfires and Typhoons pictured here did their bit to help the men forging inland on the first step of the road to Berlin.
