The Changing Face of www.commandomag.com
Mar 14, 02:46 PM
A few updates and improvements are underway at www.commandomag.com. We’ll be continuing to bring you news of the latest developments in the magazine, links to Commando merchandise, our usual ongoing features and online adaptations of classic Commando stories, but we’ve a whole raft of new bits and pieces coming your way soon.
As you’ll probably notice, we’ve phased out the Commando Mail section – but you’ll still be able to have your say! All the articles and features on www.commandomag.com will now be open to comments and discussion. Each one is checked and approved by the team before appearing online, so don’t worry if yours doesn’t show up right away!
You can still email the editor directly with your queries and comments at editor@commandomag.com
How long does a comment take to show up? I added a comment about the wallpapers about ten minutes ago and have seen nothing.
sad to see the mail go though I noticed it wasn’t being updated very often. will look back and see if the comemnts are working.
Congrats! can’t wait for more
Site is looking good – do replies ever appear on the comments section, or is the ed still in Colditz?
In response to Mike’s query, some questions are answered directly by e-mail and others are answered in the comments section, depending on the nature of the enquiry.
As for the ed being in Colditz, our intelligence suggests he’s heading the escape committee.
I have two magazines which are not quite what they seem? 3708 contains only 34 pages?4102 does not contain the correct content as it contains 4131 but glued in upside down and backwards ? can you please help?
my heartfelt greetings and appreciation to commando mag. I live in India and I really , really like commando comics. its a very strange thing that …although I wasn’t there to witness the 2nd world war , reading these wonderful comics by you give me a sense of nostalgia which I cant explain. I really like the beautiful artwork and recreation of the second world war and I do hope that more commando comics keep coming up in the future.
Tom,
I do not posses 3708, but my 4102 is fine, so evidently not all are like that…….. very strange!
will you ever be able to print the commando mags in colour
Allan,
That’s a good question, and one that’s come up many times over the years. What it comes down to is that would cost a lot more to produce colour Commandos so would we still be able to sell enough to keep Commando afloat? I’d love to hear everyone’s views on this. Do the long-standing readers prefer black and white? Would the new readers like colour?
Please let me know what you think.
I’m completely happy with black & white. It suits the format well.
There were two commando annuals published in the late 1980’s (I think), which were full colour. Personally, I don’t think the colour did the artwork any justice and felt that this reduced the quality of stories. Suffice to say I’m happy with the black and white format.
Black & White, why not do a colour summer special ?
Commando would not suit colour. For one the cost would be more, what would happen with reprints? They where drawn for B&W, you have to draw in a different way for colour. The paper would have to change to accommodate the modern printing techniques. (If it’s not broken don’t fix it.) If you wanted to try something new? Why not have a longer storyline running through two or three comics. Or add some recurring characters like Dogfight Dixon from the old picture library stuff.
Thanks for the comments, Aston.
There will be a longer story appearing in the middle of this year.
Our recurring characters, “The Raiders” have been a success and will be back for more action. And there is a new band of warriors waiting in the wings, too.
I am from the Republic of Ireland I am trying to find past copies of Commando comics. Is there any good comic shop in London that sells past copies of Commando?
Can anyone help Dairmuid?
We do have some back issues here at Commando HQ. If you are after any of them, e-mail shop@dcthomson.co.uk asking for the ones you need. We can check the availability and arrange for payment and delivery.
There is always E-bay and Amazon UK.
There are stories going about on comics news websites about DC Thomson downsizing, is Commando and the editorial team affected by this?
Commando is not being affected directly by the DC Thomson re-structuring. Don't worry, Commando will continue to be produced for the foreseeable future. So make sure you keep buying your copies!
Any chance of an app for iPhone to be able to read back issues? I’d definitely pay for it!
Hi Matt,
The boffins are looking into this at the moment. As soon as there’s anything concrete to report, I’ll post something here.
Anyone else want to back Matt up? Is iPhone the best platform? What about the others?
Let us know — every little helps.
